Major Astrological News for October 2004

The Grand Quintile
rare planetary configurations in October 2004

The Grand Quintile is a rare aspect that always presages powerfully significant changes in the human condition. This unusual aspect, first delineated by Johannes Kepler, is a division of the 360 degree circumference of the zodiac by 5, producing a five-pointed star (or pentagram—the mark of Venus). Two Grand Quintiles occur in October 2004, the first on October 1 and the second on October 28, in close conjunction with a lunar eclipse. Thus the Solar Eclipse occurs at the mid-point of two Grand Quintiles, a rare occurrence indeed. Malvin Artley discusses the meaning of these remarkable cosmic events.

I have been feeling this configuration strongly since last Saturday, Oct. 23rd. I felt intense emotions and at times a sense of foreboding, which is strange because this configuration is generally favorable. Perhaps, it was my intuition alerting my soul to the great changes that will and probably already are happening all over the world. My sense is that any change whether good or bad can sometimes bring about a feeling of anxiety. And excitement!

This is a particularly interesting and frightening time to live on planet Earth. Politically, the world is a hotbed of brewing changes. It will be interesting to see how the elections in the U.S. will unfold. I think America is at the threshold of really great change, in consciousness and practice, and at the same time standing on the doorstep of fascism. We are already surrounded by fundamentalism in religion, politics, psychology to name just a few.

I think the study of myth and culture can help engender a sense of connectedness that can help heal the wounds that lead to extremism, any "ism" for that matter, and intolerance.

I posted this on the Avalon Yearning newsgroup, but I want to reiterate it here because I think it is appropriate:

My life is so enriched by contact with other spiritual beliefs and religions. I
study comparative myth because I feel as humans, we are all intimately connected. The
jew to the catholic, the goddess faith to Islam...even the terrorist to the peacemaker.
In tantric belief, all beings in the universe are intimately connected, like a web of
jewels. If we see ourselves in others, I think we are a lot less likely to judge and condemn. One
of Joseph Campbell's favorite sayings was, "tat tvam asi, thou art that." I think this
attitude towards anything in life, politics and religion included, is a path towards peace and
understanding.

The astrological information is really interesting and will affect everyone on the planet. I've been walking the labyrinth on State St. here in Santa Barbara and have found that it is helping me to assimilate all of the energy that has been emitted from the eclipses. I highly recommend this practice as well as drumming.

Happy Samhain to all!

Kris
