Trip Journal and Pictures - Installment #1

Here is the link to our Brazil 2006 journal. It is a lot of work to put these together, and it is hard to keep from being boring. I'm sure my travel writing will improve with time so bear with me. I tried to get this together fairly quickly because not a whole lot has happened since we arrived on Friday afternoon.

Tonight, Sunday, we are going to a jazz club owned by a French saxophonist named Olivier. We both hope to sit in, Shaun on drumset and me on congas, if they have them. Tuesday nights are huge music nights in the Pelourinho - there are at least two or three famous blocos (African-Brazilian drum troops) that perform and everyone shows up because the shows are free! So, the next installment will probably be done in a week.

I hope you enjoy the photos too!

Blessings,

Kris

Mythic Rhythm Newsletter - January 2006

The latest newsletter, a very brief one, went out on January 3, 2006.

Getting Ready for Brazil!

I wanted to wish you a light-filled and prosperous New Year and give you a brief update on what's new on the Mythic Rhythm site.

I'm leaving for Salvador da Bahia, Brazil on January 19, 2006 and will be there until March 7, 2006. I'm going to be studying drumming and other ritual arts, such as dance, of Candomblé. My dissertation concept papers outline my research plans and explain a little about what this tradition is. Please check out the newest papers at, www.mythicrhythm.com.

I will be audio and videotaping as much as possible while I'm in Brazil and will post onto the website and blog during the trip. I would love to continue the dialogue with you during this time to hear about your thoughts and reflections. Feel free to email me at kris@mythicrhythm.com and to post your thoughts in the discussion forum.

I will send updates in early February and March to you as new postings become available on the site.

If you know of anyone who will be in Salvador, Brazil at this time, feel free to forward my email and information to them. Also, I am collecting a lot of information about travel to Salvador and the culture there, so if you are interested let me know and I can email all of my resources to you.

Blessings,
Kris
