May Day Gaia News 2008
May Day Issue 2008

Breaking News - Alessandra Belloni, world-famous tamborine player, performer of Southern Italian folk music, and artist-in-residence at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in NYC, just joined the Gaia Fest family! And of course we are overjoyed!

Alessandra will dedicate song, dance and music to Mary Magdalene along with her longtime friend Brazilian dancer and healer Aparecida on the opening day of Gaia Festival. Both Alessandra and Aparecida were born on the feast day of Mary Magdalene, July 22nd!

On Sunday, October 12th Alessandra will facilitate a 2-hour workshop, "Rhythm is the Cure." See the website for more details. www.gaiafestival.com

And Still More Breaking News - Stephen Gerringer of The Joseph Campbell Foundation is bringing his mythological wiles to Gaia Festival with his workshop, "The Goddess With a Thousand Faces: Moving Beyond the Hero."

Stephen will present on Sunday, October 12th -- and notably he is one of two male presenters at the festival (the other is Tyr Jung, the artist and Gaia Fest board member who is creating our incredible and unique Gaia labyrinth). Stephen and Tyr will be generating much needed masculine energy to balance the festival.

Stephen will be with us the entire weekend and will have a table where you can chat about everything Joseph Campbell and mythology. He'll have JC's books and can tell you all about being a member of the JCF and getting involved with Mythological Forums and Roundtables.

Welcome Stephen!

Website Goodies - If you're looking for great summer reading, check out our new online bookstore. Margaret Starbird's books as well as Joan Norton's and Karen Tate's can be purchased online via Amazon.com. If you need some fun, quick tips on living "green," check out the book, "It's Easy Being Green." The bookstore will help bring in a little extra funding we need to create a wonderful Gaia Festival 2008!

Our online registration form now gives you the option to pay online via PayPal or to mail in a check or money order. Early bird registration ends June 1st and we still need more volunteers and healers. Register today!

And, to clarify, "Healer" passes apply to reiki, massage therapists and bodywork in general. It also includes tarot card readers and any sort of mini-readings. If you're unsure, send me an email. If you want to charge fees for your services, then please register for a Vendor Pass.

In case you weren't able to join us last year, I posted photos of Temescal Gateway Park as well as bungalow and cabin accommodations. I hope this helps some of you in your planning. Click here to view.

Around Town - the sacred feminine is alive and well in Los Angeles! Our Gaia Festival Board members Karen Tate and Joan Norton (Joan joined the board this past April) have made a great many internet resources available about Mary Magdalene and the sacred feminine.

Karen Tate's internet radio talk show, "Voices of the Sacred Feminine" has featured goddess movement luminaries such as Riane Eisler, author of "The Chalice and the Blade."

Joan Norton and Margaret Starbird have also appeared on Karen's show to talk about Mary Magdalene. Listen in and learn more about Goddess through the diverse voices of Her community. Click here to access the show's schedule and archives.

Joan has developed a fabulous website with Magdalene resources and an engaging blog based on her work with the Magdalene Circles and her personal encounter with Mary Magdalene.

I enjoyed reading Joan's blog - it's actually better described as a news gazette for the Sacred Feminine - and subscribed right away to receive her rich musings of current news and events surrounding the Magdalene and related topics. Check it out for yourself.

For film aficionados reading this newsletter, a new movie "Bloodline" is sure to get your heart pumping - especially if you're interested in the mystery surrounding the Priory of Sion and the marriage of Jesus and Mary Magdalene. (I got this off of Joan's blog, of course!)

Margaret Starbird, author of "The Woman with the Alabaster Jar" and
"Tarot Trumps and the Holy Grail," spoke with film maker Bruce Burgess and the interview is posted here:
http://bloodlinethemovie.blip.tv/#846914

The movie traces the film makers' "raw, personal journey" to find evidence to support the theory that Jesus and Mary Magdalene had a child that carried the royal bloodline. For interviews, to view the trailer and get more information on screenings, visit: http://www.bloodline-themovie.com

The upcoming movie screening for the film "Bloodline" here in Los Angeles is on May 16th at the Leammle 5 Theatre on Sunset Blvd.

Memories of May 2007 - Our first annual west coast Gaia Festival took place just over one year ago! Who can forget the gorgeous, inspiring opening ritual designed and performed by Temple of the Goddess Pasadena? Miranda Rondeau's riveting opening of the temple gates, with just a frame drum and her voice, powerfully opened our hearts.

I recently put up a gallery of photos from the opening ritual - click here to view.

I can't thank Xia, Temple of the Goddess Director, and her Goddesses enough for all the work they did for Gaia Festival last year. Xia and company will be preparing for their All Hallows Eve ritual and will be unable to join us in October for the opening ritual. They will be missed!

However, you can catch Temple of the Goddess this summer at their incredible Summer Solstice celebration, which is not to be missed! The Summer Solstice ritual takes place on June 28th at:

Neighborhood Unitarian Universalist Church
301 N. Orange Grove Blvd.
Pasadena, CA 91103
