Spring Equinox and Merc Retro

Such strange bedfellows. The same day as the beginning of Mercury Retrograde (3/12), we also have a Grand Trine lighting up the sky with luck (although I’ve heard some astrologers say that a Trine can also mean places where we are a bit lazy). Sunday we moved the clocks up one hour. And in seven days we are cycling to the Earth’s flowering and greening time, Spring Equinox.

Yesterday, I woke up with a searing migraine for the second day in a row. Cancelled my morning appointment and just stayed in bed. Seemed like the perfect start to a Mercury-in-Retrograde day. Finally, I got up to get some cereal for me and the little Goddess.

Our long-time friend Wolfgang and annual houseguest, from Berlin, was sitting in the kitchen drinking his coffee. He bid me good morning and I replied with a grimace, a complaint and hands to my head. He said something along the lines of “You Americans are so…” and I mockingly put up my fists to give him a black eye.

We both laughed. He smiled and said, “That wasn’t the usual reaction one gets from somebody with a bad headache.”

He was right. His insult snapped me out of my migraine. I could feel a dull throbbing behind my left eye, but that was it. I was 95% cured.

It was a miracle! And, reminded me of a scene from the film Moonstruck when Cher slaps Nicolas Cage and tells him to “Snap out of it!”

A good jolt turns our perspective/our mind upside down and can help us move on with our day, remembering to be grateful for the bounty in our lives. What we focus on truly does amplify. When I took the focus off of my aching head, the pain decreased. And, I finished my daily work. In fact, I received three inquiries from new clients! All because I took the day off. (Sometimes being lazy does have it’s rewards!)

Always amazes me. When we strive the least, we have the biggest openings.

Spring Equinox, also known as Eoster or Ostara, will be celebrated on March 21. It’s the seasonal moment to focus on the green and flowery landscape around us as well as the beauty reflected in the sun’s growing light. The qualities to explore and express are those associated with the East: beginnings, new growth, courage, faith and patience. This is a time to also sow seeds that will sprout in Beltane, the peak of Mama Gaia’s spring.

Wishing you and yours a lovely Ostara!
